"It was 30 years ago today..."As sporting upsets go, few have matched Hereford United knocking Newcastle out of football's FA Cup 30 years ago. The pictures of a swarm of boys swaddled in parkas swamping Ronnie Radford and his undersized shirt occupy a leading place in Britain's devotion to the underdog. That 30 yard screamer and the press it generated put Hereford and its team of giant-killers on the map for ever. Sadly, due to a combination of circumstances, which you can read more about on another page, massive debt means that this great club is struggling to meet its everyday running costs and is unable to develop as it would like. In order to stay alive the club, its supporters and friends must raise money on a regular basis. On these pages we will try to explain, by showing you some of our glorious past, why Hereford United is more than just another football club and why it has such a unique place in the national (and international) footballing psyche. We will then explain the various ways in which you can help the club survive. Back to the futureToday, BOLSA is pleased to support the Hereford United Supporters Trust which aims to preserve and promote professional football in Hereford and the wider community of supporters, and to encourage supporter involvement with dialogue, fan representation on the board, and share ownership. |
